We are a Choral Society of about 70 members.
There are currently around 25 sopranos, 30 altos, 5 tenors and 10 basses. New members are always welcome: as you will see from these numbers, new gentlemen would be particularly welcomed!
Auditions are not required, making the choir unusual for one which performs the repertoire it does.
There is a large range of ages represented in the choir. Most members live locally or are connected with Merchiston Castle School in some way, but there is no requirement for either! There is an
equally large range of musical experience and ability. Members are expected to attend most rehearsals, and to sing in the concerts.
The Choir normally performs major works from the classical choral repertoire, though it occasionally makes ventures into lighter music, such as songs from shows or opera. Concerts are usually
accompanied by an organist.
