Spring Concert 2026
At our Spring Concert on Monday 23rd March the Colinton Choir – with an orchestra and four very talented soloists – performed pieces by Purcell and Mozart. The evening was enjoyed by a large and enthusiastic audience. We started off the concert by singing two pieces from Purcell’s ‘Music from the Funeral of Queen Mary’ and then followed with Mozart’s Requiem.
The members of the orchestra were – on Double Bass, the Haver Quartet and Adrian Bornet; on Clarinet, Jennifer Moss and Pawel Jaworski ; on Horn Sue Baxendale; on Timpani Colin Hyson and on Organ Morley Whitehead. Our soloists were: Soprano – Jessica Leary; Alto – Cara Blaikie; Tenor – Jamie MacDougall and Bass – Jerome KnoxOur accompanist was Morley Whitehead and we were led by Musical Director Timothy Coleman.
We are also grateful to all of the Choir committee, helpers and family members, friends for their support, both leading up to the concert, and on the evening itself. We are deeply grateful to Merchiston Castle School including the use of the Memorial Hall and access to the School’s Music Library. We had very positive feedback on our concert from our audience of around 240. Everyone, choir members and audience alike, seemed to have thoroughly enjoyed themselves. All of the Choir’s hard work, practising at home in addition to coming to rehearsals, paid off….
Finally a reminder that Singing in the Summer starts on Monday 20th April 2026 from 7.15 to 9.00 pm at St Cuthbert’s Episcopal Church, Westgarth Avenue Colinton. The Full Choir will resume in September 2026 at Merchiston Castle School in the Memorial Hall – details to follow, and the Christmas Concert will take place on a Monday night in December 2026 (precise dates to follow)
